Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails occur when the side of the toenail grows into the surrounding flesh, causing pain discomfort and sometimes infection. Although a minor discomfort at first, the problem can continue until it is infected.

Our team regularly treat ingrown toenail symptoms and can provide a variety of conservative or surgical management options.

  • Conservative: provides immediate relief by clearing the edge of nail ingrown into the skin. Conservative management can be performed under a local anaesthetic if needed to make it a pleasant pain free procedure. This procedure is recommended to patients with first time ingrown toenails.
  • Surgical management: provides immediate relief by clearing the edge of nail ingrown into the skin down to the nail matrix. The matrix is then treated with an acid to stop that edge of nail from ever growing back. This procedure leaves no scars, minimal pain and minimal down time. This procedure is performed under local anaesthetic to make it a pleasant pain free procedure. This procedure is recommended to patients with re- occurring ingrown toe nails. Once this procedure is performed the ingrown will never grow back again!
